Once we’ve gone through these chunks with the left hand we’re going to switch to the right hand. Again, this is all just with the left hand to start. Once we’ve gone through those smaller chunks, we’re going to combine them into larger ones. This means you’ll have to pause the video frequently so you can practice each chunk. Also, when you do check out the video, it’s important to actually go through each step I mention. Remember to ALWAYS practice slow enough so that you’re hitting the notes ACCURATELY. I go through a few different small chunks you can use to learn this song, and it’ll be much easier to see them in this video. To begin, with your left hand, you’re fingers are going to be 5, 5-4-3-1, and you’re just going to practice that slowly and perfectly four times. This is a strategy you want to be using all the time when you’re practicing.

So, starting with our left hand, we want to use a concept called chunking – breaking up the piece into smaller and smaller sections, then gradually increasing the size of the “chunks”. We don’t want to start with the easy part, we want to start with the hard part first while we have more energy, focus, and concentration. Another mistake people make is starting with the right hand because it’s easier. You want to always practice hand separate first. I really hope you’re up for it though, because it will improve your piano playing ability tremendously. You’re going to have to put in that GRIND. With that being said, it’s going to require WORK. If you can learn to play “Don’t Stop Believin’” it will level up your piano playing ability and a lot of songs that used to be challenging are going to become easy. It has a couple tricky things in it – a syncopated left hand, three-note chords in the right hand, and not only chords, but they’re doing a pattern with the chords, which makes it even more challenging.
